ABSTRACT
Luidia clathrata were collected on three occasions (9 December 1982, 3 October 1988, 15 November 2008) and transported to the laboratory. Ten individuals were placed into aquaria (50 cm × 25 cm × 30 cm) with recirculating, filtered sea water and maintained for one week without food. On these three occasions, an individual was removed from an aquarium and one or two arms amputated. The wounded individual and the arms were returned to the aquarium and the response of the intact individuals observed. Subsequently, in two trials arms were amputated from all individuals and their behavior observed.
