ABSTRACT
Carbon dioxide has always leaked out of the earth, mainly from volcanoes. If all that CO2 had remained in the earth’s atmosphere, its CO2 pressure would now be about 100 bars (instead of the current value of 0.0004 bars), the surface temperature of the earth would be close to 500°C due to the greenhouse effect, and the oceans would be converted to steam.
