ABSTRACT
Preterm birth is one of the world’s major unsolved problems in health care. In developed countries, preterm births account for approximately 70% of newborn deaths and up to 75% of neonatal morbidity. The high cost of modern neonatal intensive care may also be followed by lifelong disability, with profound con - sequences for the individual, their family and the community.
