ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on the development of an operator– environment model. An existing systems framework for attention allocation of operators within the Air and Space Operations Center (AOC) has been implemented that supports multiple modeling paradigms. AnyLogic® was selected as the software environment in which to build the agent- based model; this environment can support multiple modeling paradigms in the same tool, thus addressing the difficulty in linking the models. The focus of the agent-based modeling effort is the Attention Allocation System shown in the center of the figure. In this first iteration of the model, agents are assumed to focus on only one activity at a time. Agent measures of performance or indicators include: transition time between activities or subtasks, errors, missed information, response time, and repeated requests. The system dynamics model can be simulated either by itself, or in conjunction with the Petri net AOC process model.
