ABSTRACT

Slovenia is a Central European country covering 20,237 km2 and borders Italy to the west, Austria to its north, Hungary to its east, and Croatia to the south. On July 1, 2010, Slovenia had 2,049,261 inhabitants. According to the 2002 census, the ethnic composition of the population was as follows: Slovenians, 83.1%; Croats, 1.8%; Serbs, 2.0%; Muslims (including Bosniaks), 1.6%; Hungarians, 0.3%, Italians, 0.1%; others, 2.2%; and unknown, 8.9%. e ocial language is Slovenian, and in ethnically mixed areas where indigenous minorities live, the ocial languages are also Italian and Hungarian. e 2002 census revealed that 58% of inhabitants belong to the Roman Catholic religion. In Slovenia, there are 42 registered churches and other religious communities. e capital city is Ljubljana, which has about 300,000 inhabitants (Government of the Republic of Slovenia 2010).
