Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) includes a spectrum of chronic respiratory diseases characterized by cough, sputum production, dyspnea, and airflow limitation. The predominant diseases considered under this heading are chronic bronchitis with airflow limitation and emphysema.
