ABSTRACT
Hyperthermia is the application of heat in a therapeutic setting. When cells are heated beyond their normal temperature, they can become sensitized to therapeutic agents including radiation and chemotherapy. If cells are heated to still higher temperatures, the heat will cause irreparable damage resulting in cell death, a process referred to as thermal ablation.
