ABSTRACT
A medical photograph must be both of high technical quality and reproducible. Good photographs are a necessity in liposuction surgery. They are helpful in planning the procedure and for patient education and are indispensable for documenting the results of surgery. To evaluate the results of surgery, standardization of the photographic technique is necessary. The camera, lens, exposure, lighting, film, patient position, reproduction ratio, and background should be constants so that the changes between preoperative and postoperative photographs can be attributable only to the surgery. With basic equipment even a person with limited photographic knowledge can take highquality, reproducible medical photographs in an office setting. It is especially imperative to take the care necessary to ensure good preoperative photographs, since there is only one opportunity to take them.
