INTRODUCTION Patients approach a cosmetic surgeon for many reasons, but perhaps the most common complaint is dissatisfaction with the appearance of the face and neck. For most people, the face they present to the world is the most important aspect of their appearance and is closely tied to their own self-image. Changes in the face and neck are often the first visible signs of aging, which may be particularly distressing to a patient who is otherwise fit and healthy (Fig. 1).
