ABSTRACT

Excess adipose tissue, more commonly known as cellulite, is a common condition about which relatively little is known. In the medical literature, cellulite is known as adisposis edematosa, dermopanniculosis deformans, status protrusus cutis, and so on [1]. What exactly is cellulite and how does it arise? These are currently unanswerable questions, yet this chapter examines purported theories regarding its etiology to better understand the treatments that are currently in the marketplace. This chapter is more to provoke thought and survey the options rather than to present scientific fact, which is yet lacking in this area.
