ABSTRACT
This chapter provides an overview of the different types of clinical trials and introduces the reader to various designs for implementing the trials. These include the 3þ 3 and the continual reassessment methods (CRM) in Phase I studies; designs such as Simon’s two-stage and Bayesian designs which allow for early stopping in Phase II studies; and finally designs for large Phase III studies that compare the efficacy of two interventions based on survival.
