Respiratory tract infections are the most common type of infections managed by health care providers, and they are of great consequence (1,2). In a recent report from the Centers for Disease Control, respiratory tract infections (upper respiratory tract infections, otitis, and lower respiratory tract infections) accounted for 16% of all outpatient visits of patients to physicians (3).
