ABSTRACT
Physical agents, also termed therapeutic modalities, have been a part of the medical armamentarium for centuries. In writings of Hippocrates in 410 BC, and in earlier works of the Babylonians, note is made of the use of potions and bandages (1). Many of these treatments employed heat as a therapeutic agent.
