ABSTRACT
Pleural lavage (PL) is defined as an irrigation procedure of the pleural space, i.e., the instillation of a known volume of irrigation fluid (usually saline) followed by immediate aspiration. The aspirated fluid and its cellular or solute content can then be examined for diagnostic or research purposes.
