ABSTRACT

A gravity current (GC) appears when žuid of one density, ρc, propagates into another žuid of a di§erent density, ρa, and the motion is mainly in the horizontal direction, say x. A schematic description of four typical GCs in two-žuid systems is given in Figure 27.1. In our discussion xN is the length of the GC; hN and uN are height of the nose and speed of propagation; g is the gravity acceleration.
