ABSTRACT

The evaluation of intervention programs for elderly people, through adaptation to the needs arising from a modern and continually changing society, has a diversity of objectives. This chapter analyzes the major elements that enhance validity in the evaluation of intervention programs for elderly people. It introduces a methodological analysis of the evaluative process to specify the most relevant elements in achieving validity in evaluative data. The chapter provides useful decision criteria for those involved in designing, implementing, and evaluating intervention programs for the elderly population. Intervention programs for the elderly population have flourished in industrialized countries in recent years. Federal agencies and professional groups are developing new intervention programs in the care system for elderly people. Most programs for older people are related to four general intervention types: objective-driven programs, intervention—treatment programs, satisfaction programs, and comparison of different intervention—treatment programs.
