ABSTRACT
The acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS) pandemic has by no means begun to abate. There are more than 38 million cases worldwide. In the United States, there are an estimated 1 million individuals infected with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and about 40,000 new infections occur each year. Some evidence suggests that current behavior may result in an increase in these numbers.
