ABSTRACT
Electronic spirometers and peak flow meters, with their capabilities in recording, storing, processing, and displaying large data sets, have an
obvious and increasing role in the monitoring of asthma. The first such
devices suitable for home monitoring were described in the early 1980s,
and more sophisticated devices have subsequently been developed.
However, at least partly because of cost, electronic monitoring devices are
not yet in widespread use.
