Infections in Burns

Over one million people are burned in the United States every year, most of whom have minor injuries and are treated as outpatients. However, approximately 60,000 burns per year are serious to severe and require hospitalization. Roughly 3000 of these patients die (1). Burns requiring hospitalization typically include burns of greater than 10% of the total body surface area (TBSA), and significant burns of the hands, face, perineum, or feet.
