ABSTRACT
Fever is a cardinal sign of disease. Fever may be caused by a wide variety of infectious and noninfectious disorders. The number of disorders that occur in seriously ill patients in critical care unit (CCU) is more limited than in the non-CCU population. The main clinical problems in the CCU are to differentiate between noninfectious and infectious causes of fever rather than to try and determine the specific cause of the patient’s fever.
