ABSTRACT
Head injury is one of the most common life-threatening conditions encountered in critical
care. Approximately 50% of all deaths from trauma are associated with a significant head
injury, and over 60% of deaths from motor vehicle accidents are caused by head injury. In
the USA, a patient dies of a head injury every 12 minutes.
