ABSTRACT
The use of indwelling pressure monitoring catheters is widespread in the SICU. Clinicians
rely on accurate blood pressure measurements from the arteries and the heart to support
oxygen delivery and organ function. Although blood pressure measurements alone do
not provide information about blood flow, optimum outcome requires combined blood
pressure, blood volume, and blood flow information (1-3).
