Intestinal protozoa: amoeba

The amoebae that parasitize the human intestine belong to four genera: Entamoeba, Endolimax, Iodamoeba and Blastocystis.

E. histolytica is a tissue-lysing amoeba that causes primarily amoebic colitis (amebiasis) and amoeba liver abscess.
