ABSTRACT
As important as meiotic spindle formation in ensuring proper homolog distribution in the oocyte, is regulation of chromosome cohesion and separation. The majority of the understanding we have concerning mechanisms governing chromosome separation is derived from studies in somatic or non-mammalian cells. However, data are emerging regarding regulation of chromosome cohesion and separation during mammalian oocyte meiosis.
