ABSTRACT

INTRODUCTION This chapter outlines the principles of those radiological modalities used to image the urinary tract, except nuclear medicine, which is covered elsewhere. The various modalities exploit a number of body tissue-energy interactions, and the fundamental basis of these is explained below. Of the newer developments, technological refinements have greatly improved anatomical resolution, but the ability to analyse information rapidly involves also the possibility of physiological/functional studies, multimedia presentation and electronic transmission of images.
