ABSTRACT

The Maxwell stress effect comes from the interaction between electrical charges in the electrodes which result in electrostatic attractions between the electrodes. The strain SMaxwell corresponds to the equilibrium between electrostatic stress and the mechanical response of the dielectric material, and as a consequence a thickness contraction of the polymer is observed:
