ABSTRACT
Crack propagation in elastomers has been widely investigated since the development of fracture mechanics in the 1920’s (Griffith, 1921) and its application to rubbery materials being derived by Rivlin & Thomas (1953). In this approach the release of stored energy has to exceed a critical value for the crack to be driven in the material.
