ABSTRACT
ABSTRACT: The fascination of a leaning tower actually hides problems related to the interaction with the foundation soil, sometime not so evident at first glance. In particular, initial imperfections and non-uniform foundations very often generated differential settlements which, coupled with low stiffness of the soil-foundation system and delayed deformations, can led to long-term critical conditions.
