ABSTRACT
Monoarticular infection occurs in 80% of cases. Patients with underlying illness, particularly preexisting joint disease, and immunosuppression, are predisposed to polyarticular infection. The knee is the most commonly infected joint, followed by the hip. Pyarthrosis of other joints is significantly less common (see Table 1).
