ABSTRACT

In this chapter, we focus on the prosthetic fitting of individuals with transhumeral and shoulder disarticulation amputations at three different stages: prior to TMR surgery, in the postsurgical interim period during reinnervation, and after reinnervation. We review concepts for presurgical and postreinnervation control strategies and discuss relevant aspects of socket design and fitting. We also present principles of hardware and software selection for the TMR patient and outline the steps necessary for successful patient education and training.
