ABSTRACT

As such, the three most common indications for the implantation of pacing and debrillation systems are bradyarrhythmias, tachyarrhythmias, and cardiac resynchronization therapy. As discussed, bradyarrhythmias are conditions in which the heart beats at a lower rate insucient to provide an appropriate CO, and can be treated by an implantable pacing system. In general, tachyarrhythmias, such as ventricular tachycardia and ventricular brillation, compromise hemodynamic function by either causing the heart to beat at a higher than normal rate (i.e., ventricular tachycardia results in impaired ventricular lling and therefore reduced SV), or by causing the heart to beat in an unsynchronized, chaotic manner
