ABSTRACT

Point-of-care testing (POCT) is defined as medical testing at or near the site of patient care [1]. is de- nition encompasses devices used for near-patient and bedside testing. POCT devices can be used in a variety of settings, including clinics, intensive care units (ICUs), alternative care facilities, emergency departments, and in the eld. The goal of POCT is to accelerate therapeutic turnaround times, the time from test order to initiation of therapy, and to improve patient outcomes through evidence-based treatment decisions [1].
