ABSTRACT

In addition to respiratory illnesses, other health effects have been described. Contact dermatitis is a common complaint among woodworkers, and in many cases, it is not the wood dust itself that causes the dermatitis but contaminants. For example, among WRC sawmill workers, contact dermatitis is due to sensitization to lichens growing on the bark of red cedar trees (3). These conditions have been described in the book Woods Injurious to Human Health-A Manual by Hausen (4).
