ABSTRACT
Immunodeficiency disease may be primary or secondary in nature. Primary immunodeficiency is a congenital, inherited defect of one or more components of the immune system. Such disorders are uncommon in dogs and rare in cats. In contrast, defective immune function secondary to infectious, neoplastic, metabolic or chronic inflammatory diseases, or to administration of drugs, often occurs in these species.
