ABSTRACT

According to a report from the U.S. Department of Energy (DoE), buildings consume 72% of all electrical energy.1 erefore, the ability of a building automation system (BAS) to communicate and coordinate with the power grid has tremendous potential to reduce the peak in response to pricing and demand reduction signals by utilizing smart meters located within customer sites. ese devices provide customers and utilities real-time power consumption data and RTP information. e automation system facilitates this information for monitoring and controlling building loads and home appliances by an intelligent energy management algorithm.
