Since these procedures are often performed to reduce the risk of ovarian cancer, it is important to transect the fallopian tube close to the uterine cornu as shown here using the LigaSure device. Simple electrocautery is also suffi cient. Recent studies suggest that most ovarian cancers begin in the distal fallopian tube. There is no evidence that fallopian tube cancer arises from the interstitial portion of the fallopian tube that remains within the uterine cornu.
