ABSTRACT

The work here presented has been developed from a prefab detached housing research basis. Considering this ‘kind’ of architecture, and facing possible differences between different regions (national or international), to what extent exportation may be considered to areas different from those where it was primarily conceived for? Our goal here is to operationalize elements within the scope of prefab. Not ignoring for instance the corpus of architectural ‘regionalism’ theories, which enlightens us with a rich conceptual discussion towards this problem, we have opted not to follow the path of such a debate. Therefore the ‘limits’, as suggested in the title, stand for factors one should consider when addressing housing prefab with the goal of implementing it elsewhere in the globe, distant from where it was originally designed and developed. Although some links are unavoidable, the focus of our work is centered on the architectural issues, rather than on management, manufacturing or construction processes.
