ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT: The aim of this paper is to prove that steel structures have certain advantages compared to other building systems in terms of a sustainable development. An efficient method of building would be mass production, which generally implies a prefabrication of building elements. Because of the necessity of quick erection of buildings, steel frames best fit the criteria to accomplish these types of buildings. After an analysis of different materials, steel proves to have different advantages to other building materials, which this paper tries to prove in connection to the three pillars of sustainability.
