ABSTRACT

I. INTRODUCTION After liver injury or resection the liver has the capacity to regenerate, ultimately leading to repair and restoration of normal liver architecture. The great majority of liver cells are involved in this process including mature nonparenchymal cells and hepatocytes. The signals that initiate regeneration are mediated by paracrine pathways involving cytokines (TNFα and IL-6) and growth factors (e.g., HGF) acting in concert to regulate this complex
