ABSTRACT

Terahertz imaging has been used for medical and security applications. This chapter provides an overview of the state of the art in Terahertz wireless communication, and it is also a tutorial for an emerging application in Terabit radio systems. The objective is to construct robust, low-cost wireless systems for Terahertz Terabit communications. The chapter divides into five parts: The propagation of Terahertz waves, signal generation used in transmitters (Txs), the detection of Terahertz waves and the advancement of Terahertz transistor that is an enabling technology for Terahertz communications and discusses some solutions with respect to suitable Terahertz air interfaces and highlights some related system issues. The chapter discusses a new system concept with irregular antenna radiation patterns from both the transmitters (Txs) and receiver (Rx) sides, to establish an adaptive Terabit wireless link. It provides a preliminary study on the state of the art of the Terahertz Terabit communications.
