In this chapter, rst the measurement challenges in the application eld of regenerative medicine will be outlined that photoacoustic imaging is likely to overcome. Next the principles of photoacoustics will be discussed, including the algorithms used for image reconstruction, the current status of the technique (with a distinction between deep imaging and supercial microscopy), and its current applications. Finally, its potential for application in regenerative medicine will be discussed.
