ABSTRACT

Imaging plays an increasing role in radiation oncology as accuracy improves by taking into account anatomical changes occurring during the course of treatment as visualized through repeated imaging (Castadot et al. 2008; Lee et al. 2008; Ostergaard Noe et al. 2008; Nithiananthan et al. 2009; G. Zhang et al. 2010; Hasan et al. 2011; Velec et al. 2011). This practice, however, increases the number of images to be segmented, with critical structures having to be identified for planning, during the treatment, and in the follow-up images. In this chapter, we introduce an application of deformable registration that can automatically segment structures of interest in medical images with application to radiotherapy.
