ABSTRACT
There have been a number of significant changes to the practice
of medicine in recent decades, many of which can be attributed
to rapid advances in science and technology. Two major paradigm
shifts will be the focus of this chapter. The first relates to changes in
the uptake and application of information technology in day-to-day
clinical practice. The other is personalized medicine-the tailoring
of diagnostics and drug treatments according to genetic profiles.
