ABSTRACT

The land transportation system of Bulgaria includes 4,294 km of railways (Figure 6.1) and 37,300 km of roadways (including 459 km of highways) (Figure 6.2). Nowadays, the owner of the railroad infrastructure

is the Railway Infrastructure State Company and the roadway owner is the Road Infrastructure State Agency. According to the Road Infrastructure State Agency the total number of the road bridges in Bulgaria is approximately 5000. The Railroad Infrastructure State Company maintains about 623 concrete bridges and 327 steel bridges.
