ABSTRACT

Denmark consists of the peninsula Jylland (Jutland), extending north from Germany, and 78 inhabited islands (plus more than 200 small uninhabited islands). e capital of the country, Copenhagen, is situated on the largest island, Sjælland (Zealand). e Danish Straits, Lillebælt (Little Belt), Storebælt (Great Belt), and Øresund, form the only natural waterways between the Baltic Sea and the North Sea. In area Denmark is the smallest of the Nordic countries (Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden), but it has the second-largest population, although it is only 5.5 million.
