ABSTRACT

Brazil is the largest South American country, with a vast seashore area and bordered by the Atlantic Ocean. Its neighboring countries are Venezuela, Guyana, Suriname, French Guyana, Colombia, Peru, Bolivia, Paraguay, Argentina, and Uruguay. e name “Brazil” has a very controversial origin, although most explanations refer to the brazilwood extracted here. For some philologists, it derives from the Tupi word ibira-ciri, “prickly wood.” When the Europeans heard this name the natives gave to the red-colored wood, they called it “Brazil.” e total population in 2010 was 190 million and the overall GDP as of 2009 was about $2.194 trillion (CIA 2013).
