ABSTRACT

Stainless steels are used for a wide variety of applications owing to their good corrosion resistance. Stainless steel is the name given to a group of alloys of the ferrous (Fe) system where the primary alloying element that makes stainless steel resistant to corrosion is chromium (Cr). Wide varieties of stainless steel alloys have been developed through the addition of various other elements. is chapter outlines the types of stainless steel, their properties, corrosion characteristics, and protective measures.
