ABSTRACT

Due to stability with respect to temperature for thermosets in comparison with thermoplastics, thermosets are used for a wide variety of applications such as car parts, wrinkle-resistant shirts, berglass, adhesives, plywood, chemical agent-resistant coating (CARC), and composites. e focus of this chapter is primarily on thermosets for coating and paint applications. It is interesting to note that coatings based on traditional thermoplastic polymers require very high solvent concentrations perhaps approaching 80-90 vol% solvent. e environmentally friendly desire for low-solvent coatings has led to an increased use of thermoset polymers due to the lower molecular weights of the thermosetting resins in comparison to the higher molecular weight thermoplastics.
