ABSTRACT

Dentistry is the field of medicine that involves the study, diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of diseases, disorders, and conditions of the oral cavity, maxillofacial area, and the adjacent and associated structures and their impact on the human body. Muscle, nervous, connective (blood and bone), and epithelial tissues make up the oral cavity, and many treatments need to involve these different tissues simultaneously. Inflammatory processes result from all kinds of tooth interventions in which pulp tissue is stimulated such as caries lesions, cavity preparation, restorative procedures, tooth bleaching, orthodontic movement, and masticatory dysfunction. Furthermore, different types of surgical procedures such as tooth extraction, implant placement, and grafting produce inflammation and need considerable time to heal.
