ABSTRACT

Discovery of novel drugs, treatments, and testing of consumer products in the field of dentistry is a multibillion dollar business. The use of lasers for dentistry has increased at an exponential rate in recent years. This review will cover the invention of lasers and strategies for targeted tissue disruption, incision, bonding, and so forth. Lasers in dentistry that have been reported are then discussed under six broad headings: lasers used in dentistry, hypersensitivity treatment, lasers in preventative dentistry, lasers in restorative dentistry, lasers in pediatric dentistry, lasers in implant dentistry, laser-assisted endodontics, laser-assisted

surgery, laser-assisted periodontics, laser-assisted cosmetic dentistry, and lasers as an adjunct to orthodontics. Not only are lasers widely employed in dentistry but also have been employed using a wide variety of lasers for multiple tissue types to treat an ever-growing number of dental conditions and diseases.
